Bagnard is the top red cuvée of Château Les Valentines red wines.
VINIFICATION: The blend comes from a selection of old vines of Mourvedre (33%), Syrah (33%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and is aged from 12 to 18 months in demi-muids (600 liters barrels).
Cool coastal breezes, which help to moderate the hot summers contribute to the lovely fruit flavors and palate cleansing acidity that this wine has to offer. Blueberry and blackberry flavors in the mouth combine with the meatiness of Syrah.
BAGNARD STORY: During winter 99, for many weeks we have been breaking by hand tons of stones on a parcel of land overlooking the Mediterranean sea, to prepare a new plantation. Since then, to celebrate the achievement of this never-ending work, we have been making a very private cuvée, inspired from our "Bagnard" (prisoner) work, and we have designed the label and the bottle with traditional black and white colors of a convict outfit.
The result is a fullbodied and complex concentrated black and red fruity wine; hints of cacao, espresso and cake. A hearty red that will be the perfect winter warmer. Enjoy with grilled and stewed beef, roasted chicken, ...
TASTING NOTES: the robe is deep, tense and ruby. The nose is powerful and complex -Provence scrubland, red and black concentrated fruit. The mouth is spicy, velvety and explosive. The finish is long with melting vanilla notes. To be opened in advance and served in a decanter around 18°C.
DECANTER: Highly recommended, quite restricted cassis and blackberry leaf aromas. Rich, juicy, ripe, voluptuous fruit. Big and bouncy: 5-10 years.
WINE ENTHUSIAST: amples parfumes of flowers, spice and black cherries, refined and elegant tannins. Now -> 2025. Traditional culture, permanent ploughing, no weeding nor insecticides. Château Les Valentines is organic certified by ECOCERT.
