Grape Varieties: 50% Grenache, 50% Syrah
Vines Age: Grenache (19 years), Syrah (17 years)
Grower: Jean-Luc and Marie-Lise Dorthe
Village: Saint Marcel d’Ardeche, 55 miles northwest of Avignon. “Little Canyon” is a a celebration of the Gorge d’Ardeche, and the 78-mile Ardeche River, with dramatic 300 foot limestone cliffs.
Soil: Grown on 3.72 acres large granite stones covering limestone. The area is rich with ancient ruins, including vestiges of Roman settlements.
Vinification: Three passes in the vineyard, for hand selection of only the healthiest unbroken grapes, with ripe skins. Grenache and Syrah all de-stemmed. Maturation occurs without oak, for the purest expression of the fruit.
Tasting Notes: "Made from equal parts Grenache and Syrah, and aged all in stone, the
Little Canyon is a soft, supple and easygoing effort that gives up a nice array of black and red fruits, subtle herbs and earthy notes to go with a medium to light-bodied profile on the palate. There’s not much depth or richness here, yet it’s well made and a good drink. Enjoy it over the coming year, or two."
