 Domaine Rouge-Bleu
Possessing many mature vines, this new estate of 20 acres is farmed organically with attention paid to biodynamic processes. Near the village of Cairanne in the southern Rhone Valley, these wines are produced by traditional methods with care and attention by Caroline Jones and Thomas Bertrand.
Rouge-Bleu Premiere Cuvée Lunatique 2011 (#15-18)

The story and the name of this wine come from this tiny rocky block located inside a prehistoric river bed. This parcel is the last harvested and definitely the most qualitative even if located officially in a "Vin de Table" area.   Winemaking took place in small porous concrete tanks in order to respect “terroir” diversity and allow air exchange during the fermentation, eventually permitting life and expressions of aromas.  Lunatique comes from naturally farmed 77 year old Grenache vines.  The wine achieved great balance of acidity, tannins and alcohol.  This natural fine wine is complex and rich with hints of blackberry, anise and kirsch.

Pairings:  Meats in sauce, truffle dishes, mature cheeses or chocolate desserts

Rouge-Bleu Rosso-Azzurro 2010 (#15-15)

While vacationing in Sicily in August of 2010, Jean-Marc Espinasse developed a deep “Crush on Etna” for the beauty of the land and the wines.  Grapes from old vines have been hand harvested, partly de-stemmed and vinified with their natural yeast and low sulfur in open barrels.  This wine has high acidity and will pair well with light meats, cheeses and chocolate desserts.  

Grapes:  Nerello Mascalese (often compared to Pinot Noir)

Rouge-Bleu Vin de Pays de Mediterranee "Dentelle" Rouge 2011 (#15-19)

An expertly made wine, blending 58 year-old Carignan and Grenache vines.  Devoted to organic and biodynamic methods of growth and fermentation, Jean-Marc Espinasse has created a memorable and versatile wine.  'Dentelle' is an exquisite medium-bodied red with flavors of dark fruit, cooked cherries and elegant spices. Drinking well now.

Grapes: 60% Carignan, 40% Grenache

Pairings: Red meats, white meats, salads, cheeses and desserts
